Hi Brian. Most of the odd animal behavior is remembered when something unusual occurs with which someone can associate.

I know of one motorcycle rider who remembers an unusual animal behavior. He was riding his motorcycle down Cienega Road when a buck deer charged him. The collision killed the deer and put the rider in the hospital for a couple of days. No earthquake though.

I have no idea as to how many unusual animal occurrences there are, but I would be willing to bet there are a lot. No one remembers them though because there is nothing to associate them with.

When I contacted a couple of people in Parkfield a couple of days after the M=6.0 quake not one of them remembered any unusual animal behavior. Maybe the people were to busy going about there everyday lives to notice anything unusual going on. Then again maybe nothing was going on. It’s not something I would want to stake my life on.
