5.0 or greater |
The last 5.0M or greater to hit California was back on Sept 2 when a 5.1M struck near Obsidian Butte. Before that, there was a 5.2M near Anza on June 12. And before that, there was a 5.2M near Wheeler Ridge on April 16. These are the only 5.0M or greater earthquakes that I see for California last year. It has now been almost 6 months since the last one. According to Berkeley's website: http://seismo.berkeley.edu/seismo/faq/rate_of_seism.html 5.0 to 5.4 -- 6.8 earthquakes per year We are presently "deficient" in larger magnitude earthquakes. When is the next one of 5.0 or greater magnitude going to strike in California? Forget predicting the "where." California is the "where." Out of curiosity, does anyone know the longest stretch California has gone without a 5.0 or greater in our very short recorded geological recorded history?
