Re: Are There Any Expert Geophysics Book Reviewers Out There? - August 12, 2012

Chris,

You also largely ignored several other statements that I made in my posting.

First, though I have several degrees in the physical science, I am not a geophysicist. So, I am not in a position to accurately explain in detail the various aspects of all of those theories in the book. You can’t judge the content of the book based on what I said. I can only mention what the topics are.

Second, I stated that there were quite a few researchers including a number of geophysicists, I believe, who were involved with writing the book. And generally, unless I myself see otherwise, as I have repeatedly with postings on this board, if someone has gone through the trouble to get an advanced degree in science, he or she should be given the benefit of the doubt with regard to his or her being able to do quality work.

So, because those people do have those degrees, because they have published a lot of other geology papers, and because they reviewed something like 30 reference pages worth of technical publications in preparing that book, it should be assumed that they did a good job with researching and writing the book.

They also have their sensors deep in the ground such as in coal mines. And so, they themselves are probably able to track those “heat waves” for quite a distance as they travel downward. But if I remember correctly, they might have also referenced some of the work done by other researchers pertaining to that heat wave travel process. And I believe that they go into detail about how fast the wave travels and what the distance is between one heat wave peak and the next.

One of the main problems here is, as I said, these people speak English as a second or third language, if at all. So it can be difficult for them to engage in any type of discussion in an English language bulletin board like this one. Dr. Kalenda has not posted a note here in quite a while.

Finally,

You should read the book. It is only $45 and does a very good job of examining various theories for plate tectonic movement. And I would expect that this is an immensely important subject in geophysics.

How about this?

You probably have a birthday or anniversary somewhere on the calendar. Ask your spouse, children, friends, coworkers etc. to buy you a copy of the book instead of that (artistically challenged) tie they get you every year that somehow always quickly and unfortunately gets one of those permanent gravy stains on it that makes it impossible to wear in public (humor intended).
