strain measurements show tides

The most sensitive strain measurements are borehole strainmeters, tiltmeters, and long-baseline interferometers. Every one clearly shows tides, and I'm not familiar with any that show temperature unless they are inadequately isolated from very shallow influences.

How do you back up the claim that thermoelastic effects could be seen, but not the far larger tidal effects?
