It means that you have submitted your work, findings, and data to a 'jury of your peers' for evaluation. That is, others who are educated and regarded as experts in the field have taken a look at what you propose and have found no major or fundamental flaws.

It's called "science".

Anyone can self publish anything. Doesn't mean it's right. Admittedly, it doesn't mean it's wrong, either, but it makes folks wonder.

I would like to reinforce Vidale's concerns over using such old citations rather than more recent work. There is a bloke over in a newsgroup that seems to think that the Earth rotates EXACTLY 365.25 times in one year and that there is no such thing as sidereal time. His proof? The Decree of Canopus by Egyptian priests from 238 BC. Never mind all the subsequent centuries of scientific progress since then.
