editing messages

I just ran across something on EEC re editing posts that reminded me of this comment.

I was reading the new messages there today (9-7-06) and noticed on one post the following, "« Last Edit: Today at 09:40:50 AM by Callie »". So users can edit at the least their own posts.

That's disturbing. There is no record of what was said. And considering the post in question is a prediction, how do I know that the prediction wasn't altered after the fact to make it a hit? I'm not making the accusation so don't read into this statement what I am NOT saying. My point is that when we see such a remark on a message that it can not be trusted as there is no record of what the changes are - no way to verify the intent of the author, good or bad.
