This post illustrates the contortions necessary to defend the claims of Jim and Cal.

Now, it's necessary to "dumb down for the mainstream audiences", and the warnings are useful "just in case a quake does hit".

As opposed to the strident claims that Jim and Cal possess knowledge mainstream scientists are too blind to see, knowledge that would save lives, knowledge that is contradicted by every careful study, which appear in other posts and are the centerpiece of the book.

In combination with the statements that Cal loves the notoriety ("why else did the science editor focus on me?" as they also do on the health benefits of vinegar, on astrology, on medical treatment by leeches, ... ) it is clear the main goal here is to sell books and be famous, not enlighten the people in need of the facts about earthquakes.

Personally, I enjoyed the book, but it is not a science document except where it reviews what the scientists have already known for many years.
