Hi John. Thanks a bunch. That may account for why I saw strain build up just hours before the quakes in the San Juan Bautista area. It may also account for why strain was seen just seconds before the Parkfield quake. It may also account for why Petra and others will hear a quake days before it occurs and then at other times only hours before it occurs. If the “rate and state friction” theory holds up then predicting earthquakes with deformation sites could be extremely difficult.
