Earthquakes and the sun – Earth – moon angle

This is a fresh thread on this subject. The last one was getting too far to the side of the page.

If this subject is going to be investigated thoroughly then I would recommend that a Web site be established where information regarding it, publication abstracts, different plots etc. can be stored so that people can keep track what has already been done.

The following data would probably need to be collected and worked with at a minimum:

*** Earthquake magnitude
*** The longitude difference between the sun and moon positions
*** The latitude difference between the sun and moon positions
*** The earthquake fault zone latitude and longitude
*** The latitudes and longitudes of both the sun and the moon when the earthquake occurred
*** If the earthquake was strongly felt or destructive

The orientation of the fault zone, north – south or east – west etc. should also be important. But that might be difficult data to collect for a beginning study.

It is important to consider that you can have a situation where the sun can be above 20N while the moon is above 20S. So in addition to the longitude angle between the sun and the moon positions there is also that latitude angle to consider. The result is that the number of possible studies involving all of those variables is rather large. But these types of studies are easy to do with a good spreadsheet program. And I feel that it is probably worth the effort if someone wants to do the work. I have already done some of the studies myself and know of some publications involving this type of research. That can be helpful.
