Kp=7 magnetic storm

There is now a Kp magnetic storm-that seems to be continuing (out of 9, would probably be called major storm, 9 is extreme). I'll stay out of the South of the equator discussion, in that Roger's correlation did not show a strong effect between flares and M5+ quakes (but we have not done Kp yet....). However, I have not given up on there being a weak effect (I just don't know), and one place to look would be San Simeon aftershocks-whether there is a slight increase in the next day or 2, starting now. Although San Simeon is at low magnetic latitude, I see little or no reason why the subsolar point should have anything to do with earthquake triggering for arrival of a coronal mass ejection-the Kp is measured in North America (I have to check this again.....).

The reason why San Simeon might be susceptible is that it is relatively shallow (for California), and stresses and fluids are likely to be changing....

I still have heard nothing from the SCEC email list about San Simeon-whether there was any surface rupture, etc etc
Chris
