Kp data-make graphs-Roger, Donald

Donald and Roger,
Canie found the link below a while ago. This is for the Kp data, which are measured on the ground around North America.

Donald, if you want to know whether geomagnetic storms suppress quake activity, you just make a graph with 2 curves: Kp index and some measure of earthquake activity-could be number of earthquakes over some magnitude, or Moment release. The horizontal axis would be time-Kp is given every 3 hours. This could be limited to some area-for example, Coso to Long Valley, or all of California, or the Mid Atlantic Ridge, or whatever (as long as one does not just look for some local match and choose only that....).

Roger may be better set up to do this.

Roger-I better not try and assemble you a text file until my NEHRP report is submitted and a paper is reviewed. You can remind me to do this in about 2 weeks. Or, if you are into this-on that page is a file called kp_ap.fmt that explains the format. I guess I would use unix and "awk" or "nawk" using substring to extract those columns that I want. But, you could do this as easily, I think, and get the output into a format that your program would use. If you want me to do this, tell me what format your program needs......(can send private email).

I've been wanting to post on the extremely cold weather that we've been having in the NE-I got frostbite Monday in Vermont and have purple blotches all over the windward side of my face. Kind of ironic that the NSF doctors did not allow me to go to Antarctica, where it was much warmer-I'd have been returning back from there this week...
Chris
