Every time this discussion comes up, I get the urge to do something about it, like create an independent registry.

After years of observing from the peanut gallery, I'd think the key to a registry is that the registry must be independent of any analysis or bias. It has to simply be a place to store and disperse data, and nothing more, nothing less. Predictions should only be limited to being quantifiable, and nothing else. 1. Who's predicting (user ID or whatever), 2. date, 3. place, and 4. size. End of story. There is no place for predictor comments and opinion, which are not quantitative by their nature. Just the facts please. Facts themselves are not open to interpretation, and lets face it, interpretation has always been the key problem in the prediction world, on this site and elsewhere.

It will help predictors make valid predictions and the Roger Hunters (TM) of the world to do their analysis in a productive and comprehensive manner.

A registry should register. Analysis should be up to anybody and everybody else, but certainly not by the registry. Analysis should not be the business that it is in, IMHO. That would be like the fox guarding the hen house.

From a data standpoint, all kinds of cool things could be done. One could slice and dice by user, location, date, magnitude ... allow folks to download all this data however they want it, email alerts, etc, so on and so forth.

It would sure solve a lot of problems, and end a lot of disagreements. Seems all that energy can be put to better use...
