Roger-correlation with largest flares?

Hello Roger, What do you think about correlating this list of flares against earthquakes? For starters, you could do number of M5+ quakes from your list plotted by days relative to flare-maybe 50 days before and 50 days after? Or, if too many quakes, 10 days after vs, say, 100-90 days before (for example). Again, we know we will see random peaks because of aftershocks. But, it will be interesting if we see a peak 2-5 days after flares. Other problems with this will be: it may not be the flares-it may be the magnetic storms-some come from coronal mass ejections that are not associated with X class flares. Or, if there is triggering, it may be of smaller quakes in certain areas....But, we can start somewhere....

EQF-you seem to be willing to take a scientific approach, even if you frustrate people on this board due to lack of info and other reasons. If you have time and are familiar with earthquake catalogues, you could do things like get rid of local aftershocks in catalogues, then do the type of correlations that Roger is doing, but also do them for particular areas. For example, someone could find a list of Kp9 extreme magnetic storms and correlate it against East African rift earthquakes......
Its always a good idea to to buy and read Lowell Whiteside's thesis to see what he has done first-but you can always test/look into his results....

The magnetic storm has gone back up to "Extreme",a nd if the clouds clear here I'll have to look for auroras...Chris

Canie-is this allowed to paste a list like this if you link to the source at the same time?
