Different types of geomagnetic storms

Chris, I am not certain if you have considered the following yet. I understand that it might be important. If anyone wishes to add to this subject matter then please join in.

It has been proposed that earthquake occurrence times can be affected differently by different types of geomagnetic storms. And what type of geomagnetic storm occurs can be affected by the type of solar storm.

I understand that solar storms can fall into several categories:

Photon storms – These involve radiation such as gamma rays, X-rays, visible light, and radio waves. They travel with the speed of light and arrive first. I don’t know what effects they might have on the Earth’s magnetic field. Certain energy photons will reach the surface of the Earth. Others will be absorbed by the atmosphere etc.

Electron storms – The matter hitting the Earth’s magnetic field is mostly fast moving electrons. But they are much slower moving than photons.

Proton storms – The matter hitting the Earth’s magnetic field is mostly larger and very slow moving protons – the hydrogen atom nucleus.

CME storms – Coronal Mass Ejections – They represent blobs of radiation and matter which can be composed of different energy photons, electrons, protons, and heavier ions and atoms. The photons and lighter particles probably arrive first. The October 28 storm was a CME.

Next, it is important to consider the orientation of the magnetic field associated with the solar storm versus the Earth’s magnetic field orientation. Then you have to consider where the storm hit the Earth. Was it a direct hit or a glancing blow?

I am fairly certain that these types of things affect Ear Tones. For example, either proton storms or electron storms amplify Ear Tones. I forget which one does the amplifying. And the other one suppresses them. With the studies I would like to do I plan to consider each of those factors.

I have not yet started looking for volunteers but presently have several people who are interested in sending me Ear Tone data. One recently heard a tone at the same time there was an earthquake in Japan. I have had that type of thing happen myself.
