Re: San Andreas at Parkfield |
Hi Todd and Bob, What you were reading was a hoped new project in Parkfield called "Earthscope." I wrote a post about it some months back. Though I totally support this project, my only concern is with funding. They asked the NSF for the first 6 years of funding and I questioned where the balance would come from. It appears in these kinds of projects, once the initial funding is received, getting additional funding later is not so difficult. Zoback and I had a number of e-mail exchanges and he was very polite in his responses to my questions and gave me a better understanding of the project. After that, I also asked others who are people who know how the NSF funding works and then came to the conclusion, Earthscope would have been an excellent project. But I am sorry to report that Earthscope did not receive the requested funding for the beginning of the project, so its not going to happen anytime in the near future.
