The USGS has the following press release today: ***This is only a partial release - see link below for complete text*** President's FY 2002 Budget for USGS -- Contributions to Energy Security and America's Environment The President has proposed a budget of $813 million for the Interior Department's U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in Fiscal Year 2002. This budget request provides the same level of funding as 2000. The 2002 budget is approximately $70 million below 2001. The 2002 budget focuses resources on core USGS programs, such as mapping and hazards, and those that directly support better land and natural resource management by the Department of the Interior (DOI). ********************************************** The link below explains where the cuts will be (water projects) and where how the deficeit will be made up.
