Bob, I don't think anyone will ever try to claim it as a hit when it goes. They just want to have a complete record of what exactly happened, before, during and after the quake. As I understand, there is no other fault line in CA that is more fitted with instruments than the San Andreas in Parkfield. If they could get a snapshot of what happened right before, maybe they could take that knowledge and apply it to the Hayward, N. San Andreas or Rodgers Creek fault.
