If anything should be monitored, it is the whole Cascadia SZ. We all know that in 1700 this area had a TREMENDOUS quake which lifted parts of the Oregon seashore 20 feet and dropped others by almost as much. With a 300-500 year timeframe the area is now in an open window. If a 9+M quake hits again, the whole west coast will have problems...Also one of these days the Gorda will decide to catchup! Nobody is really ready for that scenario..Now a 6M or so in Parkfield has to be a given with the constantly moving window and besides--- the world will receive it in an anti-climatic way.....but we will pay dearly when the Cascadia goes...Many books have been written about the CSZ of which I have read 2 or 3...One by University of Montana Geological Group.. The scenarios sound like something even Hollywood has not yet tried.
