Where do you see casualty estimates of 100,000+ for an M7.8?

The UCERF report linked from the newspaper article gives a 37% chance of an M7.5+ in the next 30 years for all of southern California. Not exactly what someone might infer from the 10 months pregnant statement at the end of the article for one particular M7.8 scenario. Remember, that 37% includes events like Landers and Hector Mine, in which LA was not exactly "struggling to survive".
