Cathryn, The house was a mess and all north south running walls badly cracked. I have a very heavy antique bookcase which was running north south. It broke the earthquake ties, moved an inch away from the wall and did not fall over. Almost everything along east west running walls was trashed or thrown to the opposite wall. Our street , which runs east west, showed cracks after the quake that were some 130 to 150 feet apart and ran all the way across the street. If you followed the crack to the houses along the street, that is where the most sereve damage was done to the structure.
