Re: Rapidly evolving earthquake forecasting technology |
Petra, one of the things that I have been saying is that people could regard the science of forecasting earthquakes as being 1% science and 99% politics. And a good part of that 99% politics can be summarized in three words: “No one cares.” Earthquakes are generally regarded as being “someone else’s problem.” They do not occur every day and get the interest of voters and people who want to make money. And partly as a result of that people try to ignore them and just hope that they themselves will not become earthquake victims. Little research gets done. This leads to a situation where even if you have developed a forecasting procedure which shows some promise it can be quite difficult to get anyone interested in it. It does not appear to me that your Ear Tone research is going to accomplish much as a result. I doubt very much that you will ever be able to overcome that apathy problem. And I will again say what I have said in the past. If you do actually want to accomplish something with this technology then one possibility for doing that is to start discussing it here on the EarthWaves board. That does not mean that confidential information has to be disclosed. But certain subjects need to be discussed such as finding some formal group interested in doing research in this area. I would imagine that there must be some out there somewhere. But I myself have never been able to find any. Regarding your observation that ear tone duration can be linked with the distance to a fault zone, I am going to guess that this might work for only certain people. I have not really checked on this. But I do not presently think that the tones that I myself detect have a clear duration – distance link.
