You California type do know how screwed your state is, don't you? I've been reading emails and watching video from the head of U.C. (Yudof?) and the head of UCSB (Yang). Our daughter (HD) is a UC Santa Cruz student and her tuition will go up 9%. My salary is likely to go down 8%, even though I am paid from Federal funds, for which I write my own proposals or help others write them. While this seems wrong somehow, I may actually benefit from this for a while if the benefits are at the non-reduced budget: I can get paid less for more months before the money runs out.

One would hope that the cost of living in Santa Barbara would have dropped: they lose many professors who are offered jobs because they can't afford a job.

Are your K-12 schools terrible? Or, locally good but getting worse? Can the Millenials read, write, and use a calculator?

I know this all started pre-Governator and to some extent, pre Gray Davis, but somehow you guys have to get your state representative to deal with this.
