salary down, quality down

It's hardly worth saying. Paying more for teachers buys a better education. Fewer kids in each classroom improves education. Better facilities for schools improves education.

Of course more involved parents help the better private schools, too - so does not accepting many students that do not fit their desired profiles of affluence, ethnicity, and background. My kid was in such an elementary school with the Mercedes and Ferraris depositing the kids in the morning and 3 teachers per 20 student classroom. Nice but no feasible model for the public schools.

I'm tired of parents who pull their kids out of the public schools and then claim public schools are OVER-funded to save a little tax money, then ask for vouchers to save a little more. Such cheapskates have put the California schools in a very bad position, especially the LA schools. Then the cheapskates insult the immigrants mistreated in the LA schools, and blame them for not performing as well as if they'd all gone to the Bronx School of Science.

A pet peeve of mine, part of the reason I left California.
