There was another 4.0 in last hour. A couple of days ago the local paper said that there was a flood of people wanting to get EQ insurance in Missouri (and no doubt Illinois, Indiana, etc) but there is a 30 day period after the 5.2 where they won't write policies. An insurance company would be foolish to write policies in Reno without jacking up the rates first, until this swarm plays out.

We went for a Sunday evening walk around the Columbia MO neighborhood and a retired neighbor was protecting his roses from an expected frost. We talked to him for a while and he had been principle of a school when an earthquake prediction went out for New Madrid...I vaguely recall that, for some unknown reason a lot of people took it seriously...I think someone was predicting an 8 (??). The school district here too action, repairing buildings and tying down water heaters. He bought EQ insurance for 3 years.
On the other hand, most of the work was probably worthwhile, the insurance companies made money so they were happy (I wonder if they paid the predictor...nice scheme).
It's kind of like Governor Arnold speaking to the idiot Sean Hannity: even if global warming is a vast left wing conspiracy, what's the harm in cutting back our fossil fuel use? It can only be a good thing (I paraphrase).
