I just arrived in Missouri yesterday...took one less day to drive than I thought...that is the good news. Since I no longer live in suburbia...except part time because we have not sold our house yet....I need a new name. I've though of "chris in the heartland" "small town chris" although it is a large town....
other news: we need some lurkers to post here. I did not check this page for almost 2 weeks and there were relatively few posts when I checked (a week ago). I did not post the last week because I did not have anything to say. I should report on the workshop in Istanbul, but I was stressed enough and had to by M.C. for the talks (to keep people from running long) that the content of the talks did not generally sink in. I need to brainstorm this with "wife ex in suburbia" ("small town wife"?) to make some coherent sense of this. I did manage to do a SCEC abstract comparing structure near Ganos strand of North Anatolia fault to Santa Monica Mountains structure. Ganos fault has M7.4 earthquake in 1912. It is right-lateral.
The good news is that most people traveled 2 days after terror alert so all but one (who travelled the day of alert) made it to workshop. The talks were generally high quality. A few people got a rather bad stomach virus, including me...too sick to participate first field trip, not feeling great for full week...but I was the lightest I've been in 10 or 20 years afterwards...should make me faster skater...
