How muzzled is our science community?

As a librarian I have long been concerned with our current government's view of access to information. Edited science reports, researchers afraid to speak out, entire reports removed from the Web to the EPA library closing should be a concern to everyone.
What really make me mad I can surf the net and find more studies about what is happening in Europe and Africa in relation to global warming than I can about North America. As a farm wife and owner I know all is not well and has not been well weather wise in farm country for the last 10 years. I know from cataloging archeology studies about our mega-droughts on the Plains where even the hardiest pre-historic Indian tribes move out, but lets get our heads out of the sand and be open about it! Our government is not going to address the issue so it is up to people like us. Rant for the day!
