Re: Cut spending, don't increase taxes |
"The fairness was right down the line." Hoo-boy!!! "the tax revenues went up after the tax cuts" Though it might be possible, using various tricks, and carefully choosing the exact, desirable time spans, to make that case, I doubt it. And, as a general statement it is entirely bizarre and false. No economist of any political persuasion would try to make that case. The tax cuts are cited by all authorities, along with out of control Republican Congressional spending, as the REASON for the astounding current deficits. "and the economy benefited as a whole" Post hoc, ergo propter hoc? Correlation does not confirm causation. Here, the picture is very murky. The tax cuts MIGHT have been responsible for some slight improvement in ongoing economic indicators, however that's like saying "Now that I took out a big home-equity credit line, I have money to burn!!" "The "rich" are able to keep more of their money and invest it or spend it" Ahhh - the good old discredited "trickle-down theory." Well, I, for one, am tired of getting pissed on. [referring to the top 1% of income earners:] "How much more do you think they should pay?" Well, if you're talking about the top 1% income bracket, considering their absolutely outrageous, unfathomably huge incomes, out of all proportion to what they deserve or contribute to society, and considering that they profit so enormously from the labors, ingenuity, and dangerous, back-breaking, sweaty efforts of so many of us, and from using OUR natural resources and infrastructure, and polluting OUR environment - my answer would be "a whole lot more."
