Q for Chris

Hello Chris,

I was reading some material by Louse Kellogg on the strain patterns in the LA Basin. My assumption about the slip rate on the Sierra Madre fault was correct.
This group puts the slip at 5.5 mm per year. Also, I did miss on the San Fernando quake prediction. Should mention that. My question is about a term in the abstract, which I have linked. (pdf-short) They use the term "Savage type back slip" in the first sentence below the figure. I have not run into that term. Is "Savage" a person, or is it an expository description of what happens during a potential, normal quake mechanism? The way it is written, the word "Savage" appears to be a proper noun. Help???

Glen
