SCEC north L.A./San Gabriel workshop-hazard-John V question

Just got back from SCEC workshop at Caltech on hazard of north L.A. including San Gabriel valley (whatever that is...).

John...while I suppose anyone could have wandered into workshop, what are your thoughts about what is fair game in reporting stuff on this page from presentations at SCEC meetings? SCEC is supposed to be strong in public outreach, and that is what this post is. But, if I hear a talk at, say, Lamont, which is a private institution of a private university, I would usually ask the speaker permission unless this is available elsewhere..

OK...a couple things that I think are fair to report: Don Argus proposes 8 mm/yr of blind thrust slip beneath an area near and north of downtown L.A. (is also published). I would consider this "a lot/a big deal"...although not 100% new.
Lucy Jones put the Denali M7.9 strong ground motion map at same scale against map of southern California...said that, unlike Northridge quake, you would not be able to get in car and drive 15 minutes to get to undamaged area for coffee...good point. In response to a question (audience were local emergency managers), she said that it was possible that a M8 quake on San Andreas could have an Northridge-size quake closer to L.A. as an aftershock (this idea had been published in the past, I think: combined San Andreas and Sierra Madre quake....that particular combination is now thought less likely than was thought a few years ago..

Tom Jordan reported some of the statistics of what could happen from a Puente Hills quake (probably given in link below or link from that page).
He also reported results from Dave Wald where Northridge killed 33 people of a population of 1 million while Pakistan quake may have killed 80,000 out of a local population of 1.4 million....meaning it killed almost 6% of population.

There was something interesting about tall buildings but I'll wait for comment from John V....

OK...got to go buy new hockey helmet because old one did not prevent a concussion 11 days ago and I have had a few...the ironic thing is I tripped over or collided with probably the only player older than me...and that as soon as that happened all kinds of other bad things happened to him...including hurricane Wilma right after he bought property in Cancun (or something like that)..
