San Simeon Quake

Hi All. Not sure which I held longer. My breath or the desk. The M>6.5 San Simeon quake started as a little jiggle and just kept getting stronger and stronger. It must have lasted around 20 seconds here in the Hollister area.

On 12/18/2003 Petra sent me an eartone for the area of today’s quake. The eartone was for a quake 200 miles south of her. The quake came in at 202 miles south of her. The tone she got wasn’t on a fault that she recognized so she wasn’t sure of the location. She knew it wasn’t going to be in any mountain region

The “moment tensor solutions” identifies the quake as being a thrust quake. The quake appears to be associated with the Oceanic Fault that is in the Nacimiento Fault Zone, or very close to it.

In a week or so they will most likely relocate the quake. The preliminary results aren’t usually very accurate. Take Care…Don in creepy, but sometimes shaky town
