John, I know it was a thrust event. The rupture still has to initiate somewhere and propagate somewhere. But, given the thrust motion, you may be correct that there is not so much directivity for ground motion (is there?). Do you know which nodal plane is the correct one? The damage in Paso Robles may suggest the NE-dipping one.....

The NEIC page has the 2 offshore earthquakes, which makes me think they probably occurred there and are not artifacts. I'd like to see the focal mechanisms on these-especially the one close to the San Simeon-Hosgri fault. If right-lateral strike-slip for a NNW nodal plane, that would be interesting (and maybe just a little scary). Chris
