Hi Mary,

No, I don't think those outside of the US are more interested. But the interesting thing is that until recently earthquake prediction outside of the US in a public way was acceptable, but now things have changed. Some countries have banned prediction and in some cases they will flat out take a person to jail for doing so.

There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes which most people are not aware. I am, but I am not at liberty to discuss these matters. While at times I feel very hopeful because I do know the work is underway, I also know the obstacles to success are substantial. Some of these don't have anything to do with the research, but the deliverance of predictions themselves.

What we have to look at is the historical sense of what has happened to those who have ventured out and tried their methods. They have been fried by the science community. Taking at look at the VAN team, just last year they were under investigation for mishandling money. I have no idea what the outcome of the investigation has been, or if an outcome was reached. That is an interesting case to study if one wants to do the research. Believe me, after reviewing what has happened to them would send shivers up the back of any American scientist who wanted to follow the same route.

Prediction carries with it the double edged sword. To be right could bring one a Nobel Peace Prize and to be wrong could spell the end of a career in a heartbeat. These decisions must indeed be most difficult and require bravery beyond normal limits.

Petra
