Hi All,

Our Bay Area Channel 2 news gave a lot of space tonight in their news report on the Gilroy quake. According to the USGS spokeman the quake was on a lesser known fault called the Castro Fault. Apparently in the late 50's a 5.3 rolled through there, but they say the fault has the ability to deliver up to a 6.4 quake. My favorite faux pas of course is watching store video's with folks running out through the plate glass doors during a quake. Boy that bugs me.

The usual store damage was displayed and one story was rather sad. Some folks did not have their water heater strapped and it fell over during the quake which caused a fire and very heavy damage was done to the home. (I pray lots of folks paid attention to this, what should be a known preparedness item.)

Coverage also expanded out to report the two quakes at the Geysers today and a rememberance of the Yountville 5.2 quake which caused such serious damage. 1600 quake repair notices were issued as a result of that quake in Napa. They also reported the soil conditions for Napa are extremely poor and create high intensity shaking during earthquakes.

Getting a little off topic here, on the Highway to Heaven News front, my dear sweet nephew who moved in with me not long ago lost his uncle in an auto accident yesterday evening. The uncle was a San Francisco Police Officer and only 41 years old. He was off duty at the time driving his corvette when he hit another vehicle head on. Sometimes, life is to short.

All in all, I'm greatly relieved the quake in Gilroy was no larger than it was. There are a lot of good folks I know, which fortunately I've met through the internet who reside there and I wouldn't want them having to be in such a position to suffer. To All of my SouthBay friends, I hope your nerves recover really soon.
