Prediction, What's Easier/Lrg Qk or Small? |
Hi There, Don's post below regarding "Which Would You Chose" brought something to mind for me and the responses also tied right into this question. When looking at EQ prediction what is the consenus regarding which size of earthquake is easier to predict? Large, moderate or small? While most might say smaller are easier to predict because they occur more frequently, actually I think its the opposite. Larger quakes should have more precursory phenomena which makes them have a path before arrival. Since the Olympia, WA quake did not occur that long ago, it would be wonderful to interview people on the street and ask them if they noticed anything unusual that happened from a month to weeks or days before this earthquake. I would well imagine the list of items might be very interesting, most quite normal, but when you might ask where they live and chart the precursors by physical location, it could be extremely revealing. Gosh, to bad I don't have time to go to Seattle. I've love this assignment. So, let's hear it, what's easier to predict, a large, medium or small quake? And Why?
