No relation to rainfall found |
Hello Chris, I researched the quake history versus the 10 heaviest rainfall years and found no relationship between the two. I used the rainfall records for Springfield, which is at the northwest corner of the Wabash liquifaction. The records were kept from 1833 forward, so I had no data for the 1811-1812 mega quakes. The heaviest rainfall was between 1881-1882 and 1882-1883 with a 5.5 mag quake.
