Canie, I half agree with you. I've felt for 30 years or more that population was the root of all environmental problems, and there was not a good solution with controlling population. But, what does "solve" mean. If you froze the population today at 6 1/2 billion, all the other issues are certainly not going to fix themselves. And if you had a tough Chinese-style global population program of 1 child, and the population started to decrease to, say, 5 billion by the end of the century, and there was not major efforts on the environment, there would still be a mass extinction (the 6th in earth history? 7th?), and major climate change. So, unless you propose a death ray to wipe out about 5 billion of us, we better take the environment seriously. OK, think I'll drive my big car to the airport and fly somewhere.
