M6.1 Cuba |
There was a M6.1 near but south of Cuba. One of the 2 nodal planes is left-lateral on E-W surface. This is consistent with the plate bounary there between the Caribbean and North America Plates: The Caribbean plate originally was Pacific but pushed east between North and South America: pushed across central America, so the boundary in the north is left-lateral and in the south of right-lateral...and in the east Caribbean is over-riding North American plate (oceanic) making a subduction zone....and all those volcanos. There was (a) large swarm(s) of M2-3 quakes near Puerto Rico/Virgin Islands a couple weeks ago...
