As others have commented, this wikipedia articles is very likely in error. LIke the saying goes, "There's lies. Damned lies. And statistics".

I may be a hobbyist, and I'm still learning statistics, but intuitively what they say doesn't sound right.

Perhaps someone else can analyze this and detail the errors. I may not be able to get to this any time soon, even though it's right up my alley - earthquakes, predictions, astronomy.
