Ringmap and Ear Tone research

As I have been saying, I am expecting that the charts which I am in the process of storing at my Web site will help open a new area of earthquake research. The following are two such research applications:

(1) I have seen the maps which Roger’s Ringmap program produces. However I myself have never been able to find much of an application for them. The charts which I am making available provide one.

When a powerful earthquake occurs a Ringmap can be generated for it. And the locations of subsequent earthquakes can be compared with both the rings on that map and the wave crests and troughs in my charts. I would imagine that it might be possible to observe some type of correlation between them. But, we won’t know if that is the case until someone tries it. Also, it is not necessary to wait until my next chart is stored there to check for such correlations. There is one already there with data for the year 2003 (2003.html). And it has a format which was specially designed so that printed copies of the chart could be easily generated and used. Microsoft “Paint” works fine for that.

(2) When you hear a strong “Ear Tone,” draw a time line for that time on the map. Then when an earthquake occurs which you believe might have been responsible for the Ear Tone draw a new time line for it on the map and see if both were at the same location on one of the chart waves. I believe that in some cases they will be. And that will indicate that the Ear Tone and earthquake might have been connected.
