Re: Update - November 9, 2011: Canie |
Chris, Perhaps you should stop posting any responses to my posts and refrain from posting anything on the EarthWaves board that might involve my efforts. I personally believe that you are to a large degree simply looking for something to attack rather than attempting to deal with the science of the matter. My original comments about an aftershock for that recent Turkey earthquake were not intended at all as a prediction. And when that note was posted I had not seen anything about a Turkey aftershock. Instead, this matter got started several months ago. I was talking with International Society for Earthquake Precursors nonprofit foundation personnel about the possible creation of a new and more powerful Web site for use by the society. The foundation president has strong personal interests in Turkey. And I reminded him that although earthquakes don’t occur where I live, they do occur in Turkey. And this project needed to get moving as quickly as possible before the next deadly one occurred there. The Web creation effort ran into problems on their end and got cancelled. And sure enough, not too long afterwards they had that deadly earthquake in Turkey last month. Something like 600 people reportedly died. For the past few weeks I have been trying to find time to get an international effort started that would involve seeing if earthquake forecasters and Turkey government officials could get together and develop a plan for spotting the approach of any possible strong aftershocks for that first earthquake. And they would need to try to develop some type of procedure to use to process that information and warn people about the approaching aftershock. I posted that note about that plan because a thread had already been started relating to somewhat similar matters. It had nothing to do with that specific aftershock that has now reportedly claimed some 19 lives. And when this note gets posted I myself am going to try to determine what the UTC time offset is for posts on the EarthWaves board. I have personally found that unless a person actually reads a report on how UTC time and the International Date Line, local time, and Daylight Saving Time all work together it can be difficult to understand how to calculate UTC offsets. I myself never read such a report. And it took me years to try to piece the whole picture together. In that update note I was simply reporting that these days, it seems that the time interval between when I decide to tell people about the need to get something accomplished and when the event actually occurs is getting frighteningly short. And I am only discussing some of those disaster type forecasts here. Other disaster warnings involve other areas of science. With one of them, today or tomorrow I am planning to try to get a major project underway to improve the safety of nuclear power plants around the world. Earlier this year I warned authorities here in the U.S. that a certain type of technology needed to be developed to improve nuclear plant safety. A very simple form of that technology is already being used. But the industry needs to greatly expand its capabilities. And I explained to the authorities what I thought needed to be done. In just the past few days I discovered that a particular group in another country has now developed that technology. It was not created for use in nuclear power plants. But about 95% of the work needed for the nuclear application has now been done. And modifications needed for the nuclear plants might be made fairly easily for perhaps as little as a million dollars total. Compared with the multiple billion dollar cost for building a new nuclear power plant, a million dollar price tag could be regarded as “petty cash.” And from what I hear, China is planning to build dozens or perhaps scores of new nuclear power plants. So there is a real need to get that new technology developed. This effort is expected to involve getting the company that developed the technology, U.S. and foreign government agencies, the United Nations perhaps, international nuclear regulatory groups, and funding agencies to finance the work, all working together at some level to get the new technology developed. The two questions at this time are: 1. Can I find enough free time to prepare that report to send to all of those groups? 2. Will the various parties such as the original company that developed the technology actually decide that they want to do the work? Time will tell. Finally, Petra has in my opinion had every chance in the world to get her forecasting technology developed and evaluated. I don't know why she has never done that. I also don't even know why she stopped posting notes here. I was busy with other matters when she left and did not see what was being discussed on the board around that time. These are personal opinions.
