Triggered Earthquakes?

Hi All. There is a question that I would like to propose to you. Is this a case of far-field aftershock/triggering or is it something else?

On 08/27/1886 there was an 8.4M quake in Greece. On 09/01/1886 Charleston, SC. was struck with a 6.9M quake. Makes one wonder as to what happens when there is a large quake in one area and the affects it has on another area far removed. Also how long does this affect last? A lot of questions, but not many answers. Take Care…Don in creepy town.
