Republicans on science

I did not say "O/T" because it is relevant to discussions here.
These are clips from an article in Today's editorial section of the local paper (but is syndicated from elsewhere) by Michael Stafford, a "former Republican Party Officer". He quotes a Tweet from Republican presidential candidate John Huntsman: "to be clear. I believe in evolution and trust scientists on global warming. Call me crazy.".

The author then made his own tweet, which got a lot less attention: "I believe in plate tectonic and trust astronomers on the heliocentric solar system."

Quote in this article from Huntsman on ABC News a week ago:
"The minute that the republican party becomes...the anti-science party, we have a huge problem."

OK: my turn: I believe that men landed on the moon, and I trust structural geologists and seismologists that earthquakes occur when the shear stress overcomes friction and effective normal (perpendicular) stress on a fault. There is no involvement by unicorns or mole-people.

Give the problems with the economy etc. it is entirely possible the next president will be a Republican. Please Please Republicans, do not nominate an anti-science loon. Even if it might give Obama a better chance, we can't take the risk.

Chris
