We live 4 miles from the epicenter of the Loma Prieta EQ. The epicenter was actually in the Forest of Nicene Marks, if I'm correct. Our N.W, windows overlook this beautiful sanctuary; our SW windows, the ocean.

At the time of L.P., we lived about ten miles from the epicenter. Damage to our house was moderate. Fortunately, we were in NYC when it hit, as it would have scared me to death. We came home to a lot of aftershocks, but those were more interesting than scary, as were the two 5+ quakes that are now considered foreshocks.

I'm hoping we have had our EQ for a good long while. I oversaw the building of our house, which I co-designed. I wanted extra E.Q. protection. Although we are on sandy soil, we are also on 12 and 15 foot piers and have more foundation hold downs than our inspector had ever seen. A gigunda 100 yds. retaining wall lims our driveway. We are about four miles from shore, 12 miles S. of Santa Cruz. Elevation is 550'. House is 5K sq. feet and I deliberately made sure it was not built on any fill. We sit atop a knoll with a 360' view. Our Geo. report said that after L.P., our property showed very mild signs of liquifaction, and most of this was on the fill that is our front yard. Very mild I could deal with, so we bought the property and built on it, moving in during the summer of '92.

So, let's say there was another 7 in our back yard. How do the people on this board think we would fare?
