Hi Cathryn

Well if this prediction they are saying comes true, I'm guessing the cycle will continue from there. The 90s were very interesting out there w/ Landers/Big Bear, Hector Mine, Joshua Tree, etc. I'm thinking it started then and will continue. I also find it interesting that in the Bay Area they can give a % chance of quake happening on most segments of the active fault lines. Here in Socal all they say that is within the LA area there are over 200 faults, a lot prob. unknown that could go anytime. Same story for the desert. If you look seismic activity in the socal area it was very quiet pre-1971 (except 1933). I'm sure there are people who were born in the 1930s that could have gone their whole lives living in LA and never feeling and earthquake till 1971. Then in the 80s there were quakes in Malibu, Whittier, Pasadena and then Northridge. Coincidence? Maybe...but in geo time its very clustered. Then throw in the desert...it appears to be increase.

What's interesting is that some of these faults snap on thousand year cycles...therefore anything that is within 5 years of each other when there was hundreds of years of silence before seems likely to be linked, that is a very fast blink in geo time.

BTW, does anyone know if they ever were able to determine that the causative fault in Northridge had a reoccurence cycle? When that last quake was? And in hindsight is it true there NEVER were any detectable (not even a little 1.0?) quake on this fault in the years leading to Northridge?
