Seismic activity expected

Earthquake warning type signals which were detected earlier today were I believe linked with approaching significant seismic activity.

I am presently only part of the way through my data analyses and do not have a probable location. These signals are usually for activity which will occur within a week. But quite often the expected earthquake will not occur for weeks or even months. For example, a strong signal which I believe clearly pointed to the destructive December 22, 2003 earthquake in California was detected on November 7, 2003. There was a six week delay.

These advisories are not meant to provide exact time and location information for expected seismic activity. They are instead intended to let other forecasting personnel around the world know when important warning signals were detected. They can then check their own data to see if there might have been any strong precursor signals pointing to their local area. Had forecasters in Iran been able to detect significant precursors after I circulated warnings last November and December then perhaps they would have been prepared for that catastrophic December 26 earthquake.

I would expect that these latest signals were linked in part with the fact that the sun and moon are about 180 degrees apart in the sky (an important angle for earthquake triggering and warning signal generation) and the fact that we have had some recent strong solar storm activity (a likely contributing source for warning signal energy).

I am busy with evaluating data and preparing updates for my Web sites and don't intend to participate in any debates regarding earthquake forecasting philosophies.
