San Simeon Quake History

Hi All. It appears this area is no stranger to moderate to large quakes. On 11/22/1952 there was a 6.0Ml quake about 5 miles north of today’s quake. It appears to be on the same fault, or very close to it.

There doesn’t appear to have been any foreshocks to today’s quake.

The question I have is did this quake loosen things up on the San Andreas Fault between Cholame and the “big bend” enough that will allow the fault to move much in the same way the two quakes did before the Loma Prieta quake did?

The 1857 quake occurred about 50 miles west of today’s quake. There were some reports of foreshocks to that quake, but the location and time of occurrence for those quakes isn’t known. Take Care…Don in creepy town
