You know most of all how I've been obsessed about this region since I joined the board. Any activity in the locked region gets me unglued (laugh). All of the fault maps for California show two major intersecting lines north of Hollywood, the Garlock and the San Andreas. Why are these two faults so heavily outlined? All other major faults are, for some reason, uncharted. So, for lack of other information, I tend to think of the two faults as working to create the lock in some way. Any movement close to the region makes me think the lock is starting to break, and when that shift occurs, it frees up the other plate boundaries to give way up and down the coast.
