Roger - they have flare data by day in the events directories
http://www.sel.noaa.gov/ftpdir/indices/2001_events
http://www.sel.noaa.gov/ftpdir/indices/2000_events

They have a file per day
The lines with a 'TYP' of event: XRA = flare and then the next column has the flare size (C1, M2, etc)

I'm not sure what the other events are but I'm sure its documented somewhere...

I think to get the data all the files have to be downloaded and merged together and a date added... then look for the various types of data.

I wonder what the cut-off would be for checking flares to quakes... M class flares and above? I probably should try to plot c's, m's and x's separately .... I wonder if some of that data is a cme and proton events......
