Roger: If you go to the link you will be in a directory which has "year"_DSD.txt files. These are the flare files. The 1994 file is missing the x-flare column and can't be used.

You could go in and read the 12th column of these files and if they're > 0 then you just read the date (1st 3 colums on left).

With your skill and inclination you could quickly build an X-flare text file with the date (and level of the flare...though the level may not matter that much (or maybe it does if it's a 20!).

Anyway, you then have to take your set of say M6.5+ or M7+ quake files back to 1995 and place them in either a X-flare window set of Not.

One would then compare observed probability for the X-flare windows with the Non-flare window sets.

Of course, this would not account for location. But maybe Lowell found after the fact that there were above observed levels in X-flare windows and they were found to happen in the sub/anti-solar zones.

Just guessing from what I've understood what I thought Lowell said.

Anyway, it looks like a 'piece a cake' for a programmer like yourself....
