Re: Ear tones and Plagiarism? |
I believe that "plagiarism" basically refers to instances where a person copies another person’s writings etc. and then presents them to other people as his or her own. Perhaps there is someone out there who has seen that happen with ear tone data. But I myself cannot recall seeing any instances where it has. With regard to the ear tone times which you yourself are reporting, in one of my earlier notes I stated that if someone lists an ear tone time in a note posted to this board and includes the words "ear tone" in the note heading then I would try to see if I could run the time through my computer programs and report the results. So far only one person has done that to my knowledge. And I did check that ear tone time and reported the results. I have not seen any notes posted by you which suggested to me that you might be interested in that. Regarding the notes posted to the Eartone List, I believe that the list got started because some people were, and still are interested in sharing their data with others. If it turns out that some people are instead doing that because they wish to be given credit for having heard an ear tone and they do not want their data used for research or earthquake warning purposes then perhaps Canie could add an extra column to the list which would show when someone wished to indicate that that is the case. However, I would be surprised if that were to happen. She probably has enough work to do as it is. These are my own opinions.
